What’s better than having the support of your better half when changing your eating habits, knowing that, as a couple, you will go through the highs and lows together. A couple’s health challenge, so to speak. Because let’s face it: changing one’s habits is no easy feat. Here are a few things you can do as a couple to take care of your belly:

  • Cook: Opt for home-cooked meals. Eating out and ordering in are always tempting options. However, the menu contains meals that are often high in fat, limited in vegetables and the servings are usually oversized. The result? Your belly will have to work overtime….
  • Give importance to the first course: Start your meal off with a plate (or bowl) of colourful veggies, like a warm vegetable soup, a beet salad or a tomato salad. You’ll boost your fibre intake and do a lot of good to your digestive system.
  • Talk: Open the way for good conversation. You’ll give your satiety signals the time they need to reach your brain (about 20 minutes), which will keep you from overeating. Your belly will be grateful!
  • Think “extra”: Take advantage of your time together in the kitchen to make enough for your lunches as well. No more eating out at lunch or grabbing a bag of chips and a chocolate bar at the corner store! Your meals will be delicious and balanced, with healthy options like colourful fruits and vegetables, whole wheat grain products, lean meat or meat substitutes and probiotic yogurt.
  • Plan ahead: Pencil in one cooking day a month. You’ll be able to stock up on healthy meals for when motivation and time are of the essence. Cooking together is a great way to bond, all the while taking care of your health.
