Since cholesterol doesn’t dissolve in the blood, it has to be carried to the cells by transport molecules called “lipoproteins.” There are two main types of cholesterol in the blood, which are often simply referred to as good and bad cholesterol: Good Cholesterol Good cholesterol (HDL), produced from monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, can help reduce excess cholesterol in the walls of the blood vessels.
